Our Standards
Gist Edge is an all-round gist blog covering technology and AI, migration and visas, scholarships and funding, and general news. Some of that is light reading. Some of it is not: a reader may make a visa decision, an application decision or a spending decision based on what they read here. These are the standards we hold ourselves to across all of it.
Sourcing
- Every factual claim is attributed to a named source — an official publication, a company announcement, a regulator’s decision, or an original report by a named outlet. If we cannot say where a claim came from, we do not print it.
- Every article ends with a “Sources consulted” list, linking the reports it was built from, with their headlines and outlets. Our articles are written from the facts those reports establish, compared against each other — we do not reproduce anyone’s prose.
- Where an article describes official guidance or an institution’s own announcement, we name the publishing body and the date of publication, and link the original in the sources list. Official guidance changes without notice, and that original is always authoritative over our summary of it.
- If you find an article whose sources are missing or wrong, tell us at hello@gistedge.net and we will correct it.
- Where a story rests on a single outlet, an unnamed source or an unconfirmed report, we say so in the article itself rather than presenting it as established fact.
- We draw a clear line between what has been confirmed by the organisation involved and what has merely been reported about it.
- We do not republish other people’s articles. Where we build on someone else’s reporting, we credit and link to it.
Before We Publish
No article goes live unread. Every piece is reviewed and edited by a person before publication, and that person is accountable for it. That review covers:
- Each factual claim, checked against the primary source rather than against another article about it.
- Quotes, figures, dates, fees, eligibility criteria and deadlines, verified individually — these are the details readers act on.
- Anything that cannot be verified: it is either removed, or kept and explicitly flagged in the article as unconfirmed.
- Clarity — whether a reader who knows nothing about the subject would finish the article knowing what to do next.
We do not publish articles written only to fill an empty category or to chase a search term. If we have nothing useful to say on a topic, we do not publish on it.
Corrections
We correct errors quickly and in public.
- If you believe an article is wrong, email hello@gistedge.net with the article link and the specific claim you are disputing.
- We check it against the primary source and respond, normally within two working days.
- Where we are wrong, we correct the article and add a dated correction note at the foot of it. We do not quietly edit and move on.
- Where the facts of a story change after publication, we update the article and mark it as updated.
Independence, Advertising and Affiliate Links
Gist Edge is independent. We are not affiliated with any government department, university, immigration adviser or technology company, and no advertiser has any influence over what we cover or what we say about it.
The site carries advertising, including ads served by Google, and may carry affiliate links. Advertising is visually distinct from editorial content and is never presented as an article. Sponsored and affiliate content is always labelled. See our Disclaimer and Privacy Policy.

Our migration, visa and scholarship articles are explanatory journalism, not legal or immigration advice, and we are not regulated advisers. Always confirm your own position against the official guidance we link to, or with a qualified adviser, before you act on it.

Gist Edge is independently owned and edited from Nigeria. Editorial responsibility for everything published here rests with our editor, who can be reached at hello@gistedge.net. Every message about an article is read and answered by a person, normally within two working days.
