Except where stated otherwise, the articles on Gist Edge are our own work and are protected by copyright. You are welcome to quote a short extract for the purposes of reporting, comment or review, provided you attribute it to Gist Edge and link to the original article. Republishing whole articles, or substantial parts of them, without our written permission is not permitted.

Material Owned by Others

Our reporting quotes and references material published by others — government departments, companies, universities and news outlets. We keep such use to what is reasonably necessary for reporting and comment, we attribute it, and we link to the source. Official government publications are quoted so that readers can see precisely what the guidance says; the linked original is always authoritative.

Where we use photographs or illustrations, we use images we have created, licensed, or that are made available under a licence permitting the use. If we have got that wrong on any particular image, tell us and we will fix it.

Reporting a Copyright Concern

If you own copyright in material published on this Site, or act for the owner, and you believe it has been used without permission, email hello@gistedge.net with “Copyright” in the subject line and include:

Your name, address and email, and the rights holder you represent if not yourself.
Identification of the work you say has been infringed.
The exact URL or URLs on gistedge.net where the material appears, and a description of the specific material — not just the page it sits on.
A statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
A statement that the information in your notice is accurate, and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on their behalf.
Your physical or electronic signature.

What We Do About It

We acknowledge every valid notice, normally within two working days. Where a complaint is well founded we remove or replace the material promptly, and where the article can stand without it we say in the article that the material was removed. We do not require a complainant to argue their case at length before we act on a clear one.

If you believe material was removed in error, email us with “Counter-notice” in the subject line, identifying the material, where it appeared, and why you believe its use was permitted. We will consider it and respond.

Repeat Infringement

We do not knowingly publish infringing material. Any contributor found to have supplied it will not be published here again.
