Comment Policy

Last updated: 7 August 2026

Comments are open on Gist Edge because readers often know things we do not — a rule that changed last week, a fee that is out of date, a step in an application that catches people out. We want those comments. This page explains what we welcome and what we remove.

What We Welcome

  • Corrections. If we have a fact wrong, say so and, if you can, point to the source.
  • First-hand experience of a visa route, an application or a product.
  • Questions about anything in an article that was not clear.
  • Disagreement, argued on the substance.

What We Remove

We remove comments that are:

  • Abusive, threatening, or attacking a person rather than an argument.
  • Hateful or discriminatory on grounds including race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or age.
  • Sexually explicit, or otherwise not suitable for a general audience.
  • Spam, or posted mainly to promote a product, service or website.
  • Impersonating another person, or posted under a misleading identity.
  • Sharing someone else’s personal information — including passport numbers, application reference numbers, addresses or phone numbers. Please redact your own details too before posting; a comment thread is a public place.
  • Offering paid immigration, visa or legal services, or soliciting readers to contact an agent privately. Readers of visa articles are frequently targeted by fraudsters, and we will not let this site be a channel for that.
  • Unlawful, or encouraging unlawful activity, including advice on how to deceive an immigration or funding authority.

How Moderation Works

Comments are moderated. First-time comments are held until reviewed, and we use automated spam filtering. We remove comments that breach this policy without further discussion, and we may block repeat offenders. We do not remove comments simply for being critical of Gist Edge or of an article.

Removal is not censorship of a view — it is housekeeping on a site we are responsible for. If you think a comment of yours was removed in error, email hello@gistedge.net.

Your Comments and Your Data

When you comment we collect the name and email address you supply, your IP address and your browser information, and we use them to publish the comment and to filter spam. Your email address is never published. See our Privacy Policy for more, including how to ask for your comments to be deleted.

Responsibility

Comments are the views of the people who write them, not of Gist Edge, and nothing in a comment is professional advice. Do not act on a stranger’s account of an immigration route without checking the official guidance yourself — see our Disclaimer.
