Nigerian social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkman, has publicly accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of trying to exploit his innovative anti-scam business idea. In a viral video, VDM revealed that while detained, he shared a detailed plan with the EFCC to develop an online platform targeting scams involving Chinese manufacturers and Nigerian retailers.
He explained that during his time in China, he was working closely with tech experts to create an app designed to expose fraudulent activities between Chinese suppliers and Nigerian buyers. VDM invited the EFCC to collaborate on the project, suggesting it would be beneficial for all parties involved.
However, after his release, VeryDarkman raised alarms over attempts to frame him with intellectual property theft allegations from a woman named Princess Barbara Odoh, who claims he stole her idea for a consumer protection system against online scams.
VDM refuted these accusations, highlighting that he invested heavily in the project long before Barbara’s claim, noting her minimal social media presence.
VDM challenged the EFCC to present any proof of prior submissions from Barbara and accused the commission of trying to hijack his anti-scam concept for their own benefit. He urged transparency, demanding the EFCC release footage or records to clarify the allegations.
This unfolding controversy has sparked intense discussions across social media platforms, with many rallying behind VDM’s fight for intellectual property rights.
In his words:
“Everything is making sense to me now, dear @officialefcc I have given you guys the blueprint of my idea which you all applauded me,the whole thing I told you was recorded in a video,it’s not a coincidence that after you granted me bail few days later you brought me back to your interrogation room to talk about intellectual theft, here is the thing if she truly gave you a similar idea few 2years ago then it was recorded I think we should play it back and compare, else I feel you guys want to st3al my idea and make money off it.”
