Tension ran high at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, as a suspected armed robber met the wrath of students and locals after allegedly attempting to break into a student’s lodge at Teezers Junction, near the school gate in Ifite. The suspect, reportedly caught with a firearm around 11pm on Friday, June 6, was pounced on by a furious mob who administered instant jungle justice.
Disturbing videos shared online show students mercilessly beating the suspect while a person wielding a cutlass loomed nearby. Some students filming the harrowing scene could be heard begging the attackers to stop, with one female voice pleading, “It’s enough,” and asking her lodge mates to lock the gate before the mob stormed in.
The man, left bloodied and motionless, was later handed over to security operatives after the mob had vented their anger, according to witnesses.
This incident has reignited conversations around insecurity, mob justice, and the thin line between self-defense and lawlessness in student communities.
