Nigeria’s sprint sensation Tobi Amusan has once again made the nation proud after clinching silver in the women’s 100m hurdles final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on Monday, September 15.

The defending world champion narrowly missed out on gold, finishing with an impressive 12.29 seconds, just behind Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who stunned the field with a national record of 12.24 seconds to win her country’s first-ever world title in the event.

Amusan, 28, gave a brilliant performance, adding to her glowing track record and securing Nigeria’s 12th medal in World Championships history. The bronze medal went to America’s Grace Stark in 12.34 seconds, while her compatriot Masai Russell settled for fourth. Despite missing gold, Amusan’s achievement proves her consistency at the top level, following her historic 2022 world record of 12.12 seconds, which still stands unbroken.

Fans across Nigeria and beyond are celebrating her resilience, with many hailing her as an icon of hope and inspiration for African athletics.
