The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has announced that fasting may continue until Sunday, March 30, 2025, as the moon signaling the end of Ramadan has not been sighted in Nigeria.
In a statement issued by NSCIA’s Secretary-General, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, on Saturday, the council urged Muslims to search for the Shawwal crescent on Ramadan’s 29th day to determine the official end of the fasting period.
The statement read:
“If Muslims sight the crescent in accordance with the moon sighting and verification standards, then His Eminence will declare Sunday, 30 March 2025, as the 1st of Shawwal and the day of Eid ul-Fitr.”
Despite Saudi Arabia declaring Eid on March 30, 2025, Nigeria’s fasting continues.
