The South-South leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has come out swinging against popular social media activist, Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan. In a fiery statement released on Sunday, APC South-South Zonal Organizing Secretary, Blessing Agbomhere, demanded a public apology within seven days from the influencer, accusing him of disrespecting Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The outrage stems from a viral video where VeryDarkMan criticized Akpabio’s participation in the federal government delegation to the Vatican for the funeral of Pope Francis. In the video, which quickly gained traction online, VeryDarkMan described Akpabio’s Rome trip as “shameful,” insisting that the Senate President should have instead visited Nigerian states recently rocked by violent attacks, such as Benue, Plateau, and Kwara.

However, Agbomhere fired back, stressing that activism should not be confused with character assassination. He defended Akpabio’s nomination by President Tinubu, highlighting Akpabio’s strong Catholic faith, impeccable character, and statesmanship, which made him an ideal representative for Nigeria at the Vatican.

“The Senate President was not self-nominated. He was selected by the President to represent our nation at a global event of great significance,” Agbomhere asserted, condemning VeryDarkMan’s remarks as slanderous and damaging.

Agbomhere warned that if VeryDarkMan fails to issue a public apology within a week, further action could be taken. He also urged Nigerians to dismiss what he called the influencer’s “uninformed rantings,” reminding citizens that the Tinubu-led administration inherited many of Nigeria’s security challenges and is actively working on long-term solutions.

He concluded by emphasizing that President Tinubu has demonstrated serious commitment to fighting insecurity, and real progress takes time and strategy, not wishful thinking.
