Reno Omokri subtly criticized Nigerian singer Davido while congratulating Tems, whose full name is Temilade Openiyi, on her Grammy win.

Tems received the Best African Music Performance award at the 67th Grammy Awards, held on Sunday, February 2. Omokri’s remarks added controversy to the celebration of Tems’ significant achievement.

In a post shared on his Instagram page, Reno wrote;

‘’Congratulations, Tems, and thank you for bringing the Best African Music Performance Grammy back to Nigeria. It is so delightful that a proud Nigerian who always speaks well of her country has achieved the rare honour of being a double Grammy winner. We are happy for and with you, Tems. If only others can learn from you, they may have their own Grammy to boast of.”
In another post, Reno wrote;

”To Win a Grammy As a Nigerian Artiste, Associate With a Nigerian Flag, Not The Flag of a Colonial Oppressor, Otherwise Your Ambition Will Be in Shambles!”

”When you praise the flag and image of your country, Providence will raise your swag and visage to a Grammy!” he added as His post appears to be a direct shade at Davido who has the Belgium flag on his bio.

In November 2024, Reno Omokri criticized Davido for remarks made during his appearance on the US podcast The Big Homies House.

Davido warned African Americans against moving to Nigeria, citing the country’s struggling economy, high oil prices, and unfavorable living conditions.

While acknowledging his role as an ambassador, Davido admitted to not showcasing Nigeria’s challenges in his work.

Reno condemned Davido’s comments, labeling them as ignorant and unpatriotic through his post on X.
