Former presidential aide, Pastor Reno Omokri, has doubled down on his demand for disciplinary action against NYSC member Ushie Uguamaye, also known as Raye, following her viral criticism of President Bola Tinubu over Nigeria’s economic crisis.
After her remarks, Raye alleged that NYSC officials threatened her and summoned her to appear before her Local Government Inspector in Lagos on March 17.
Concerns grew that she might face severe penalties, prompting activist Omoyele Sowore to accompany her, intensifying fears of unfair targeting.
Amid public outcry, Omokri dismissed ethnic bias claims, citing Davido’s NYSC sanction in 2018 as a precedent. He maintained that Raye’s case was about accountability, not tribal discrimination.
He wrote:
“This is not about politics or ethnicity. Under President Buhari, the NYSC disciplined music star Davido for flouting its rule.
The people of the Southwest did not accuse the NYSC of tribalism, and the PDP did not accuse President Buhari of witch-hunting an opposition politician.
There must be a rule of law in Nigeria rather than rule by sentiments.”
