Nigerian music producer K Solo has responded to Pastor Femi Lazarus’ recent criticism of gospel artists charging for performances. In a video interview with media personality Daddy Freeze, K Solo firmly defended the right of gospel musicians to request payment for their work.

During the discussion, shared on Daddy Freeze’s Instagram, K Solo emphasized the financial investment required to produce music, including studio costs, equipment, and promotions. He argued that music is a profession, and expecting artists to perform for free is unrealistic and unsustainable.

The debate began after a sermon by Pastor Femi Lazarus, leader of Light Nation Church, went viral in March 2025. Lazarus questioned the spiritual integrity of gospel musicians demanding high fees, citing an instance where a singer allegedly requested N5 million for a church performance. He suggested that true ministry should be based on faith rather than financial transactions.

His remarks sparked mixed reactions. While some supported his call for gospel music to remain ministry-focused, others—like K Solo—criticized his stance as impractical, failing to acknowledge the economic realities of the music industry.
