In a fresh move to sustain ongoing reforms within Nigeria’s Customs sector, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially extended the tenure of Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, by an additional year. His tenure, initially set to expire on August 31, 2025, will now run until 2026.
The announcement, made through a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, highlighted the President’s confidence in Adeniyi’s leadership. According to the statement, the extension is to ensure the completion of key reforms, including the modernization of the Customs Service, the full rollout of the National Single Window Project, and Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.
President Tinubu commended Adeniyi’s dedication to service and expressed optimism that the extension would help boost trade facilitation, revenue generation, and national border security.
