he Lagos State Police Command has arrested popular social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, after a disturbing video surfaced online showing him driving recklessly and crashing his car during a live stream. The shocking incident, which happened on Sunday, December 14, 2025, quickly sparked massive outrage across social media platforms.
Confirming the arrest on Tuesday, December 16, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, described Peller’s actions as extremely dangerous and a serious threat to public safety. According to the police, the influencer’s conduct could have resulted in fatal consequences, not only for himself but also for innocent road users. Authorities emphasized that the arrest was necessary to send a strong message against reckless driving and irresponsible use of social media influence.
“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained, for further investigation, Habeeb Hamzat aka ‘PELLER’, subsequent to the viral video that surfaced online on Sunday 14th December, 2025, in which he was seen driving recklessly, leading to a dangerous road crash and serious motor accident, while the incident was being live streamed, thereby endangering his life and that of other road users,” the statement said.
“His action constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangers the lives of other innocent people,” the statement added.
The police command has revealed that the case has now been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive and in-depth investigation, as authorities intensify efforts to uncover all details surrounding the incident.
The Lagos State Police have issued a strong warning, stressing that reckless and unlawful conduct will no longer be tolerated under any circumstances.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to enforcing traffic laws without fear or favour, insisting that offenders will face the full weight of the law regardless of their social status or online influence.
The incident has reignited national debate over dangerous stunts by content creators chasing online engagement, with many Nigerians demanding tougher enforcement. Police also highlighted that road crashes remain a major safety concern in Lagos, often caused by speeding, distracted driving, and disregard for traffic rules.
