TikTok influencer Peller is facing heavy criticism after making dismissive remarks about Afrobeats star Runtown during a livestream.

When fellow streamer Sandra Benede suggested featuring Runtown, Peller rejected the idea, saying he preferred a more established artist.

His comments sparked outrage among fans, who found them disrespectful and uninformed. Many highlighted Runtown’s significant contributions to Afrobeats, accusing Peller of undermining the artist’s long-standing influence in the music industry.

He said: “Wetin be Runtown? That one never blow. We no know am. Give me another person. Who is that? Runtown? Don’t bring upcoming artists on my live video. Na artistes wey don blow well well I want,”

Runtown gained fame with his 2014 hit “Gallardo” and solidified his status in Afrobeats with the global success of “Mad Over You” in 2016. His continued influence in the music industry makes Peller’s dismissive remarks seem out of touch.

Critics argue that his statement undermines Runtown’s contributions and reflects a broader issue of industry figures failing to recognize established artists’ achievements, especially given Peller’s past collaborations with top stars like Olamide, Tiwa Savage, and Davido.

As backlash mounts, Peller has remained silent on the criticism. Fans and Afrobeats enthusiasts demand respect for veteran artists like Runtown, reigniting discussions on recognizing and honoring musicians’ lasting contributions beyond current industry trends.
