Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of RCCG, recounted a near-death experience from seven years ago during the Let’s-Go-A-Fishing evangelism program. Speaking at the Joy Unspeakable Holy Ghost Service, the 83-year-old pastor expressed gratitude for God’s grace.

He revealed that poor road conditions led to a severe illness, making it the first time he was bedridden on Christmas Day, highlighting God’s protection in his life.

“Seven years ago, during this same program, I collapsed in Ilesha. My body gave way, and for the first time in my life, I spent Christmas Day in bed. The devil was certain he had finally got me,” he revealed.

As Pastor Enoch Adeboye’s condition worsened, an emergency helicopter was arranged to transport him to the RCCG camp since he was too weak for a road journey.

However, local miscreants attempted to obstruct the rescue mission, damaging a helicopter window just before takeoff, further complicating the already critical situation.

“They clung to the helicopter, and in the process, one of the windows got torn. But by God’s grace, I made it to the camp. I was certain that if I could just get there, I would recover,” Pastor Adeboye recounted.

Pastor Adeboye fully recovered from the ordeal and continues his ministry actively. He urged the congregation to remain grateful and consistent in their faith, emphasizing the importance of thanksgiving regardless of life’s challenges and difficulties, he declared:

“Seven years later, I am still here! Please, praise God for me—give Him glory, honor, and adoration!”

Pastor Enoch Adeboye urged believers to avoid living a double life, emphasizing unwavering faith both in and outside the church. He advised them not to compromise their salvation and to remain consistent in their spiritual walk.

This year marks the 39th anniversary of the Special Holy Ghost Service, which has impacted millions globally. Born in 1942 in Ifewara, Osun State, Adeboye joined RCCG in 1973 as an interpreter for founder Pa Josiah Akindayomi. Following Akindayomi’s passing in 1981, Adeboye became General Overseer, leading the church to remarkable global growth.
