Former Napoli sporting director Pierpaolo Marino has expressed skepticism over any Serie A club activating Victor Osimhen’s hefty €75 million release clause, insisting it’s structured for foreign clubs only. In an interview with RAI 2, Marino acknowledged that the fee matches Osimhen’s international market value but highlighted its impracticality for Italian teams.
He praised the Nigerian striker as a rare talent capable of instantly transforming any team’s fortunes, stating, “Osimhen is one of the few players in the world who can turn a non-winning team into champions.”
Marino also questioned the legitimacy of Galatasaray’s reported interest, suggesting the Turkish club might be acting as a conduit for a future move to a top Italian side. “Turkish clubs usually pay high wages but not massive transfer fees. If Galatasaray activates the clause, could they be holding him for Juventus or Milan next year?” he asked.
The veteran football administrator hinted at a possible behind-the-scenes strategy where an Italian club may be leveraging Galatasaray to bypass the domestic clause restrictions.
