The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to strengthen both local and international partnerships in tackling terrorism, kidnapping, and killings ravaging Nigeria. The group made this appeal following Donald Trump’s recent statement offering American support to help Nigeria fight terrorism.
In a statement by its Secretary-General, OPC reaffirmed its commitment to national peace and unity, urging the Federal Government to work with the United States and other developed nations to freeze the assets of terrorism financiers worldwide. The group emphasized that security is a shared responsibility, pledging to assist security agencies through grassroots intelligence and surveillance.
OPC noted that its members are spread across the South-West, Kogi, Kwara, Edo, and Delta states, making them well-positioned to gather crucial intelligence in border areas and rural communities. The organization vowed to operate within the law while supporting the Nigerian Police, DSS, and Armed Forces in curbing criminal activities.
They also called on the government to confront powerful individuals allegedly backing terrorism, insisting that the security of citizens must come before politics. OPC reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring that the Yoruba homeland remains peaceful, secure, and prosperous.
