Despite reports making the rounds, the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Federal Health Institutions Sector, has firmly debunked claims that the ongoing seven-day nationwide warning strike has been suspended.

Speaking to Punch, the union’s Public Relations Officer, Omomo Tibiebi, clarified that the strike, which began on July 30, is still very much in effect, contrary to statements made by Health Minister Prof. Muhammad Pate. 👩🏽‍⚕️🗣️

Tibiebi emphasized, “The minister didn’t call the strike, so he has no authority to call it off.” He also confirmed that the National Executive Council will meet Saturday to review the Federal Government’s offers and decide if they’re worth ending the strike. 🧾⚖️

The nurses are standing their ground on key demands like:

  • Better shift and uniform allowances

  • A dedicated salary structure

  • Increased core duty allowance

  • Mass recruitment of nurses

  • Creation of a nursing department in the Health Ministry

Until these are addressed, don’t expect a retreat from Nigeria’s frontline health warriors.
