The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, is preparing to challenge the life imprisonment and additional sentences handed down by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja. According to his former lawyer and legal consultant, Aloy Ejimakor, the fight is far from over.

Kanu was slammed with multiple life sentences on counts one, two, four, five, and six. He also received a 20-year jail term on count three and an additional five years on count seven — both without the option of a fine. The judgment has sparked major reactions across the country and beyond.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the ruling, Ejimakor confirmed that Kanu’s legal team will immediately take the case to a higher court, signaling a lengthy legal battle ahead. Supporters and observers are closely watching developments as the case continues to generate national and international attention.

“We are heading to appeal,” he said.
