Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili made history on Saturday by setting a new women’s world record in the 150m event at the Adidas Atlanta City Games, clocking an incredible 15.85 seconds—breaking the previous record by nearly four seconds!
The 22-year-old athlete from Port Harcourt dominated the race from the 50m mark, leaving competitors far behind and becoming the first woman ever to run the 150m in under 16 seconds.
Ofili’s astonishing feat surpassed the seven-year-old record held by Shaunae Miller since 2018. After the race, she credited her coach’s guidance and her faith, saying, “The Lord is good… I was told to relax and run it like a 100m.”
This latest victory adds to her impressive resume, including an African record in the 200m last year. Favour Ofili is truly putting Africa on the global sprinting map!
