In a bold move that could change the face of African motorsport forever, Nigeria has officially joined the race to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix.
This groundbreaking announcement came from the National Sports Commission (NSC), with chairman Shehu Dikko confirming that Opus Racing Promotions has been chosen as Nigeria’s official representative in the bid to bring the high-octane event to Abuja!
Dikko has also extended invites to F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, 7x world champion Lewis Hamilton, and the world-renowned Tilke Engineers — the masterminds behind the world’s best F1 circuits. If all goes well, Nigeria could be the first African country since 1993 to host a Grand Prix, putting us back on the global motorsport map.
This isn’t just about fast cars — it’s about boosting tourism, creating jobs, attracting investments, and showcasing Nigeria’s soft power to the world!
But Nigeria faces stiff competition, with South Africa and Rwanda also eyeing the opportunity. Can Abuja pull it off? 🏁 Let the race begin!
