Nigerian Afrobeats artist Alexander Adelabu, known as Magixx, recently shared how he joined Mavin Records. In an interview with Adesope, he revealed that his initial focus was finding a manager to guide his career rather than signing with a label.
However, during his search, he was unexpectedly contacted by Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy. After discussions, he received an offer around September or October 2020 and eventually signed, becoming the label’s last addition at the time.
Magixx said: “I reached out to someone that I need person wey go dey manage me, wey go help me, because really tight that time. He reached out to couple of people that was how Don Jazzy happened. I was just looking for a manager. I wasn’t even thinking about record label. I was just thinking of someone that could put me on shows for the world to see my talent.
“I got reached out to in September/October 2020, and I got offered a contract. I was the last to come in. They were going to unveil Ayra Starr that September, but because of 2020 COVID, they pushed her unveiling to January and every other person were unveiled thereafter”.
