Professor Nasir Hassan-Wagini of the Biology Department at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU) has set social media buzzing after encouraging young Nigerians to ditch idleness and embrace small businesses.

Speaking during an interview at a local market in Batsari, Katsina, where he sells vegetables, the professor revealed he comes from a farming background and has run his own produce business for years even after attaining the prestigious rank of professor.

He passionately urged NCE, diploma, and degree holders not to feel “too big” for small-scale entrepreneurship, saying: “I want students to look at me and see that despite being a professor, I still run a small business. There is no shame in it.”

He added that youth should stop waiting endlessly for white-collar jobs or migrating in search of opportunities. Instead, they should merge their education with vocational skills to become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to society.
