Veteran Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has stirred up social media after boldly calling out the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) over a grammatical blunder in one of their official posts. Known for her intelligence and candor, Henshaw took to the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter) to correct what she described as a glaring error, urging the examination body to uphold better standards in communication.
The drama unfolded after JAMB issued a public statement to clarify the correct start time for one of its upcoming examinations.
The statement read in part:
“@PeterObi, Your Excellency, I must assert that our examination is scheduled to commence at 8:00 am, not 6:00 am. While verification and other clearance processes begins at 6:30 am, it is imperative that candidates are afforded adequate time…”
It was the phrase “processes begins” that caught Kate Henshaw’s attention. The actress, who has always been vocal about societal issues, was quick to highlight the grammatical flaw. Quoting JAMB’s post, she wrote:
“By the way @JAMBHQ, it’s not ‘while verification and other clearance processes BEGINS.’ It is ‘while verification and other clearance processes BEGIN!! I had all my education in this country. It was never this bad.”
Henshaw’s correction quickly went viral, sparking a heated conversation online about the state of education and professionalism within government institutions.
Many netizens applauded her for holding JAMB accountable, while others lamented the declining standards of language use in official communications.
Her post not only highlighted the need for grammatical accuracy but also emphasized the importance of maintaining credibility in public service.
