The Kaduna State Police Command has officially addressed the viral video showing a man attempting to breach President Bola Tinubu’s security during his visit to Murtala Square on Thursday, June 19.
As President Tinubu delivered his Democracy Day speech, a young man suddenly dashed toward the stage, causing a stir before being swiftly intercepted by security operatives.
According to a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, Mansur Hassan, the individual has been identified as Umar Mohammed, a resident of Anguwan Muazu in Kaduna, who is reportedly living with psychiatric conditions.
The police clarified that Umar was allowed into the venue after being screened as a supporter of the APC. He was seen wearing party regalia and carrying campaign banners of the President and the state governor.
Preliminary investigations revealed Umar had been among the designated supporters but suddenly leapt over a protocol barrier out of what he described as “emotional excitement” and a long-standing desire to get close to both the President and Governor.
He was immediately apprehended, thoroughly searched, and found to be unarmed. The Command urged the public not to spread false narratives or politicize the incident, emphasizing that investigations are still ongoing.
