Nigeria can finally breathe a sigh of relief as former President Goodluck Jonathan has safely returned to Abuja after being urgently evacuated from Guinea-Bissau, where a sudden military coup erupted.

Jonathan, who was in the country as head of the West African Elders Forum Election Observation Mission, had been monitoring last Sunday’s presidential and legislative elections before the military shockingly announced the takeover.

His unexpected presence in the tense political environment raised serious concerns among Nigerians, many of whom anxiously awaited updates on his safety. Thankfully, on Thursday evening, November 27, Jonathan was successfully airlifted and arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, marking the end of the uncertainty surrounding his wellbeing.

His safe return has sparked nationwide relief and renewed conversations about the rising instability across West Africa and the crucial role of diplomatic leaders in peace missions.
