The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to pay N1.12bn to the family of Mike Madu, who was killed in a fatal accident involving an INEC driver in Imo State.

The compensation includes 10% annual interest from the date of the judgment until full payment is made.

The court also instructed INEC, its chairman, Prof. Yakubu Mahmood, and other defendants to issue a letter of condolence to Madu’s family.

The suit was filed by Augustine Madu, Mike’s brother, who sought compensation for his brother’s unlawful death in 2019.
