Veteran Nollywood actress and Labour Party chairman in Rivers State, Hilda Dokubo, has broken her silence on the ongoing wave of defections rocking Nigeria’s political space. With several key opposition figures switching allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dokubo is calling out what she sees as a troubling lack of integrity and ideology among the political class.
Her comments come in the wake of high-profile defections, including six House of Representatives members from Delta State, two from Enugu, and a major shocker—former Delta State Governor and PDP’s 2023 vice presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa—all crossing over to the APC. These moves follow growing internal turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
According to Dokubo, these defections highlight the absence of guiding political principles, suggesting that many politicians are more driven by personal gain than by true national service.
“They don’t have the ideology, so that’s what they are doing,” she said.
Speaking further, Hilda Dokubo reaffirmed her unwavering loyalty to the Labour Party, boldly declaring that she won’t be moved by the current wave of political cross-carpeting.
Her firm stance has earned applause from supporters who admire her integrity and consistency in the face of Nigeria’s shifting political landscape.
“I am not leaving the Labour Party because I joined it based on ideology,” she stated.
