The Federal Government has announced plans to sell 753 housing units recovered from former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele to the public. This was confirmed in a statement from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development after a joint site inspection led by Minister Ahmed Dangiwa and EFCC Chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede.
The Abuja estate, spanning over 150,000 square meters and featuring duplexes and residential units, was seized by the EFCC in December 2024 and handed over following a directive from President Bola Tinubu.
Minister Dangiwa revealed that technical assessments are underway to ensure the buildings are structurally sound before listing them for sale on the Renewed Hope Portal — a government platform designed to boost affordable housing access. Praising the EFCC for one of Nigeria’s biggest asset recoveries, Dangiwa stressed the administration’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption.
EFCC Chairman Olukoyede highlighted the importance of public awareness, clarifying that this recovery marks the largest single asset seized by the commission since its 2003 inception. Following a failed legal challenge by Emefiele, the government’s move to convert the estate into public housing reflects its commitment to fight corruption and empower citizens with recovered national assets.
