Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), has fired back at former U.S. President Donald Trump over allegations that Christians are being systematically k!lled in Nigeria. In a strongly-worded open letter shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, November 5, Keyamo dismissed Trump’s claims as “false and misleading,” insisting they do not reflect the real situation in Nigeria.
Keyamo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and renowned human rights lawyer, urged Trump to collaborate with Nigeria in the global f!ght against terr0r!sm instead of relying on biased foreign narratives. He reminded Trump that he was born and raised a Christian and has always stood for human rights and justice, even earning the Global Human Rights Award in Washington in 2017.
The minister clarified that Nigeria’s insecurity challenges are driven by extremist and cr!minal groups such as Boko Haram and armed herdsmen — not by religious persecution. He emphasized that both Muslims and Christians have been victims of these violent attacks.
Highlighting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s inclusive leadership, Keyamo noted that the President’s wife is a pastor and many of his children are practicing Christians, with several Christian Service Chiefs serving in key government positions.
He concluded by urging Trump and the U.S. government to seek balanced, factual information about Nigeria and partner with the nation in tackling terr0r!sm and insurgency rather than spreading misinformation.
