Popular Nigerian comedian Acapella has fired back at the long-standing narrative that Lagos is “hosting” other Nigerians, calling it not just misleading, but outright silly.
Taking to his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, the comedian passionately argued that Lagos belongs to every Nigerian, and no one is receiving special treatment just because they are not indigenes of the state.
“Lagos is not hosting anybody,” Acapella wrote. “It’s Nigeria’s commercial hub. Nobody lives here for free. Every Nigerian has the right to live, work, and thrive in any state of their choice.
He questioned the definition of “host,” stating that the Lagos State government does not offer privileges to non-indigenes, so the idea of being “hosted” is baseless. Acapella even drew a sharp comparison with Abuja, noting that many Yorubas live and make policies in the capital, yet no one accuses them of overstepping.
His remarks came as a direct response to a tweet by Omolade Fatoyinbo, who implied non-indigenes should stop “insulting their host” and instead promote Lagos.
Acapella’s clapback has gone viral, reigniting conversations about national identity, inclusivity, and what it truly means to belong in modern-day Nigeria.
