In a shocking development, Deji Adeyanju, the lawyer representing popular online personality Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, has claimed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officers subjected his client to severe mistreatment during a controversial arrest. According to Adeyanju’s statement shared on social media, EFCC agents allegedly labeled Otse a “bandit,” blindfolded him, and physically assaulted him.

The incident, which took place on May 2, 2025, unfolded after Otse, his mother, and associate Steven Avuara visited Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) in Garki, Abuja, to address concerns over unexplained deductions from Mrs. Otse’s bank account. Following their inquiry, the group was reportedly locked inside the bank’s security area for over five minutes. Once outside, they were allegedly confronted by armed men wearing black uniforms, who physically beat and blindfolded them. The officers, according to the statement, accused them of being bandits and threatened to shoot them in front of Mrs. Otse.

Adeyanju’s colleagues later visited the EFCC headquarters to investigate the situation. While they were denied access to Otse, they managed to speak with Avuara, who corroborated the events. The EFCC failed to clarify the charges against either of the detained individuals and refused to disclose the basis of Avuara’s detention. Instead, they produced an arrest warrant for Otse related to an alleged cyberstalking case.

The lawyer’s statement concluded by demanding the EFCC respect the constitutional rights of his clients and called for immediate clarification on the charges. The public and legal communities are now waiting for more details as this case unfolds.
