The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has underscored the vital need for enhanced collaboration between China and Nigeria to unlock the vast potential of Nigeria’s Solid Minerals sector through establishing electric vehicle factories on Nigerian soil.
During a courtesy visit to the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, Ambassador Dunhai highlighted the significance of stronger bilateral ties to drive Nigeria’s industrial growth and economic diversification.
Echoing recent discussions between Presidents Bola Tinubu and Xi Jinping, the ambassador revealed China’s plans to set up electric vehicle and manufacturing plants in Nigeria, supporting Nigeria’s local value-addition policy. Chinese firms already actively engage in mining exploration and processing, with a focus on responsible operations adhering to environmental and legal standards.
Minister Alake welcomed this partnership but emphasized the importance of combating illegal mining activities. He called for joint efforts to ensure compliance, especially after recent controversies involving a few rogue operators. The Mining Marshals initiative has already made significant strides in curbing illegal mining and boosting regulatory compliance.
This collaboration marks a strategic move towards transforming Nigeria’s natural resources into finished products, reducing fossil fuel dependence, and creating jobs within the country.
