SERAP Drags NBC to Court Over Ban on Eedris Abdulkareem’s Bold Anthem ‘Tell Your Papa’

Human rights watchdog SERAP isn’t backing down as they’ve officially slammed NBC with a lawsuit over the controversial ban of Eedris Abdulkareem’s new track, Tell Your Papa! 🎵🔥 The song, known for boldly calling out President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, has been blacklisted from radio and TV for being “objectionable” and “against public decency standards” — but SERAP says that’s pure censorship, not protection!

Filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos, the rights group is demanding the ban be scrapped, claiming it violates Nigeria’s constitution and international human rights laws. 💼⚖️ SERAP argues that freedom of expression doesn’t exist to only please the government — it’s meant to give artists, creators, and citizens the power to challenge, shock, and inspire real conversations.

The lawsuit also slams Section 3.1.8 of the Broadcasting Code, calling it dangerously vague and a clear weapon against political and creative freedom. SERAP’s message is clear: Art isn’t supposed to be comfortable; it’s meant to provoke thought and stir change. 🎤🧠

NBC’s censorship, they say, is not just silencing a song — it’s silencing the people.
