Veteran entertainer and activist Charly Boy, real name Charles Oputa, has reacted to the Lagos State Government’s decision to rename the iconic Charly Boy Bus Stop in Bariga after legendary rapper Olamide Adedeji, aka Olamide Baddo.
In a brief reaction to GistLover on Saturday, Charly Boy simply said, “Na dem sabi”—a slang phrase that shows indifference or a “make dem do as dem like” attitude.
Below are some of the key road name changes:
- Ilaje Road has been renamed King Sunny Ade Road, celebrating the Juju music icon.
- Bariga Road is now Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, in tribute to the current President and former Lagos Governor.
- Community Road in Akoka has been changed to Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road, after the sitting Lagos State Governor.
- Ajidagan Street is now Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street, named after the popular rapper.
- Ifeanyi Street becomes Abolore Akande (9ice) Street, in honour of singer 9ice.
- Ayodele Street, Ladi-Lak has been renamed Tony Tetuila Street, after the veteran Afro-pop artist.
- Ilojo Crescent in Obanikoro now bears the name Bukayo Saka Street, recognising the English football star of Nigerian origin.
The renaming comes following the commissioning of newly completed projects in the Bariga LCDA, where outgoing chairman Hon. Kolade David Alabi announced a wave of landmark renamings to honour top Nigerian stars in music and sports.
While Olamide’s name now graces the landmark in his native Bariga, the decision has sparked online buzz and divided opinions. Some see it as a fitting tribute to a hometown hero, while others question the erasure of Charly Boy’s long-standing legacy in the area.
