The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has just turned up the heat for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) with a massive $10.4 million prize pool – the biggest in the tournament’s history! For the first time ever, the eventual champions will walk away with a whopping $3.5 million, a 75% increase from the $2 million handed to winners in the previous edition.
CAF isn’t stopping at just the winners. The runner-up will bag $1.2 million, while the third and fourth-place finishers get $700K and $600K respectively. Even the quarter-finalists will receive $450K each, and group stage teams won’t go home empty-handed either.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe says this bold move is part of their mission to empower locally-based players and elevate African football to global standards.
“This increased prize pool is meant to reward participation at all levels and attract fans, sponsors, and global broadcasters,” he added.
Set to take place from August 2–30, 2025, this year’s CHAN is making history again by being jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, bringing together 19 top African teams including Nigeria, Senegal, Morocco, DR Congo, Zambia, and more!
