Veteran Nollywood star Bimbo Akintola has sparked conversations online after opening up about how the movie industry has drastically changed over the years. In a candid interview, the respected actress revealed that unlike the early days of Nollywood, today’s actors seem more focused on looks, glam, and social media appeal than the true passion for storytelling.
According to Akintola, the pioneers of Nollywood, including herself and legends like Joke Silva and Shola Sobowale, were fueled by nothing but raw hunger and passion. She recalled working tirelessly—sometimes overnight—without food, comfort, or pay, just to ensure stories were told authentically.
However, she expressed disappointment that the current generation of actors often prioritize makeup, outfits, and even body enhancements like BBLs, over content and craft.
“The passion is gone… it’s now about looks, not content,” she lamented, stressing that while beauty and glamor may fade, true artistry will always stand the test of time.
