
The Edo State Government has reacted strongly to latest political stress in Benin Metropolis following an attack on supporters of the African Democratic Congress Party during a gathering in the state capital.
Speaking on Wednesday during a are living interview on Channels Television, the Edo State Commissioner for Information, Kassim Afegbua, accused damaged-down presidential candidate Peter Obi of fueling political instability in Edo State.
Afegbua claimed that Obi’s presence in any political party commonly leads to internal conflict and public disorder.
“Peter Obi is a drawback to the politics of Edo because any party he belongs to is crisis, crisis, crisis,” says Kassim Afegbua, Edo State Commissioner for Information.
The commissioner made the statement while responding to questions about the violence that reportedly erupted during a ADC-related activity in Benin Metropolis earlier in the week.
He alleged that the gathering was now not correctly coordinated with safety agencies and accused the party of attempting to galvanize unrest below the guise of political mobilization.
According to Afegbua, Edo State remains committed to maintaining peace and is now not going to tolerate actions capable of disrupting public reveal.
He additional argued that political actions associated with Obi have repeatedly generated stress in several states, adding that Edo would now not transform a theatre for political confrontation ahead of future elections.
The commissioner also dismissed claims that the attack was backed by the state government. He said safety agencies are already investigating the incident and assured residents that anyone discovered accountable shall be prosecuted.
Meanwhile, Obidients have condemned the attack and accused the state government of intimidation. They insisted that the gathering was peaceful before it was disrupted by unidentified individuals.
