
Activist Omoyele Sowore has criticised President Bola Tinubu over his assent to the Electoral Act 2026 (Amendment), alleging that the regulations is aimed at weakening free and credible elections in Nigeria.
Sowore, a customary presidential candidate and creator of Sahara Newshounds, made the remarks in a submit on X on Wednesday.
His words: “Tinubu has now signed the 2026 ‘Electoral Act,’ a regulations designed to undermine and within the fracture forbid free, magnificent, and credible elections in Nigeria.
“We must withstand this assault on democracy. They’ve dared the folk. Now we must confront them, WE must rattling their impunity.”
Tinubu signed the amended Electoral Act into regulations on the presidential villa in Abuja earlier on Wednesday.
The presidency and leaders of the Nationwide Assembly like mentioned the modification strengthens transparency, including provisions for electronic transmission of results and train primaries by political occasions.
