President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed that the new tax laws, including those passed on June 26, 2025, will officially take effect on January 1, 2026, as scheduled. In a statement released on Tuesday, Tinubu described the reforms as a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” to create a fair, competitive, and robust fiscal foundation for Nigeria.

He emphasized that the new laws are not aimed at increasing taxes, but rather at driving structural reforms, harmonisation, and protecting citizens’ dignity while strengthening the social contract.

The President urged all stakeholders to support the implementation phase, noting that it is now “firmly in the delivery stage” and that no significant issues have been identified to halt the reform process.

He stressed that “absolute trust is built over time through the right decisions, not premature reactions.” Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to due process and promised to collaborate with the National Assembly to resolve any arising issues promptly, ensuring a tax system that promotes prosperity, fairness, and shared responsibility for all Nigerians.
