Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is set to be hosted by former US President Donald Trump at the White House later today, sparking major buzz online. The 40-year-old Portuguese legend will reportedly be part of a Saudi delegation led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is visiting the United States for the first time since the CIA determined he approved the 2018 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
According to White House reporter Jake Traylor, Ronaldo will be officially welcomed by Trump during the visit. Interestingly, Ronaldo has not been publicly photographed in the U.S. since facing a rape accusation in 2017 from former American teacher Kathryn Mayorga. The alleged incident reportedly occurred at a Las Vegas hotel in 2009. Mayorga had settled out-of-court in 2010 for $375,000 (£304,000) but later sought additional compensation. Ronaldo has consistently denied the allegations, and the lawsuit was ultimately dismissed in 2022.
Earlier this month, Ronaldo made headlines by personally urging Trump to help broker global peace, sending him a message on a Portugal jersey. The gesture was highlighted during the G7 summit in Canada, where Portuguese European Council head Antonio Costa handed Trump the “Ronaldo 7” kit. Ronaldo’s note read: “Playing for peace,” emphasizing his desire for unity and teamwork on a global scale.
This high-profile meeting is already trending worldwide, combining the worlds of football, politics, and diplomacy, and social media is buzzing with speculation and excitement.
