Following the heartbreaking exit of the Super Eagles from the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, President Bola Tinubu has urged the national team to immediately pick themselves up and channel all energy into preparing for the upcoming AFCON tournament.
In a statement released by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the players for their fight despite Sunday’s painful defeat to DR Congo in Morocco. Nigeria’s World Cup dream slipped away after a tense 1-1 draw that dragged into extra time and ended in a dramatic 4-3 penalty loss.
Tinubu acknowledged the frustration felt by millions of Nigerians, noting that this marks the second consecutive time the country will miss the World Cup. He emphasized the need to fix the loopholes and for all football stakeholders to return to the drawing board. The President issued a clear directive: the focus must now shift fully to AFCON 2025, where the Super Eagles must redeem their lost glory.
With the tournament set to hold in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, the pressure is on. All eyes are now on the Eagles to bounce back stronger and restore national pride.
