Legendary Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face or 2Baba, has reflected on the impact of his timeless hit, “African Queen,” describing it as both a blessing and a burden.
Speaking on an entertainment show, the music icon confessed, “African Queen has been a huge blessing, but it also turned into a problem for me. Still, I’m grateful for everything.”
Released in 2004, the love anthem became a global sensation, earning 2Face multiple international awards, including BET, MOBO, and MTV Europe Awards, marking a historic milestone for African music.
However, the hit has faced long-standing controversy due to Blackface’s claims that he wrote the song — an allegation 2Face has always denied.
The debate recently reignited after Billboard named African Queen the “Greatest Afrobeats Song of All Time” in 2025. Despite years of drama, 2Face remains thankful, acknowledging that while the song gave him fame and legacy, it also brought unending scrutiny and pressure.
