American rapper Max B, born Charley Wingate, has finally regained his freedom after spending 16 years behind bars. Arrested in 2007 and convicted in 2009 for a botched robbery that led to a man’s death, Max B originally received a 75-year sentence, despite not being physically present at the scene.

His legal team successfully had the conviction revisited, reducing his sentence to 20 years in 2016.

Throughout his incarceration, Max B continued making music, recording verses over the phone and releasing projects like Vigilante Season, while staying connected with longtime collaborator French Montana, who joyfully welcomed him back.

On Sunday, Max B walked free and immediately re-entered the public eye, appearing at an NFL game looking confident and in high spirits, simply saying, “They gave me 75, but I’m back.” Fans worldwide are celebrating the Harlem artist’s long-awaited return.
