Renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has slammed U.S. President Donald Trump over his recent claim that Christians are facing “genocide” in Nigeria, accusing him of spreading lies and showing deep contempt for Africa.
Speaking on Channels TV on Wednesday, November 5, Falana described Trump’s comments as baseless and misleading, stating that there is no credible evidence to support the American president’s assertion that thousands of Christians are being k!lled in Nigeria.
According to Falana, the violence ravaging parts of the country has nothing to do with religion, but is rather fueled by criminality, resource struggles, and insecurity. He emphasized that those behind the killings — whether bandits, kidnappers, or terrorists — are often motivated by money and power, not faith.
“Mr. Trump lied to the world,” Falana declared. “The killers in Nigeria don’t care about your religion. They care about ransom and control.”
He further explained that the persistent clashes in states like Benue and Plateau are primarily tied to land and grazing disputes, not religious persecution.
Falana advised the Nigerian government not to “lose sleep” over Trump’s recent military threat, but to instead focus on addressing its internal failures in managing insecurity.
He also accused Trump of using Africa as a pawn in a larger geopolitical game, saying, “Trump’s hatred for Africa is clear. This is about resources and power — not religion.”
