In a bold statement that’s now making waves online, U.S. House Representative Riley Moore has declared that China has no authority to dictate America’s foreign policy, especially when it comes to defending persecuted Christians abroad.
Moore’s comment came after China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, criticized former President Donald Trump’s recent threat of military action in Nigeria, which Trump described as a necessary step to “protect Christians from persecution.” Mao Ning, speaking on Wednesday, said China “firmly opposes any country using religion and human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs.”

Reacting via X (formerly Twitter), Riley Moore fired back, calling China a “Communist autocracy” and defending Trump’s position. He wrote: “President Trump is absolutely right to defend our brothers and sisters in Christ who are suffering horrific persecution and even martyrdom for their faith. China will not dictate our foreign policy — not when it arrests Christian pastors and imprisons ethnic minorities in concentration camps.”
The heated exchange highlights rising tensions between Washington and Beijing, as both nations compete for global influence. While China continues to expand its ties across Africa through trade and diplomacy, the U.S. faces challenges maintaining its presence due to aid cuts and internal divisions.
Meanwhile, ECOWAS and the European Union (EU) have voiced strong support for Nigeria’s sovereignty, urging the international community to unite against terrorism and uphold peace in West Africa.
