Super Eagles star, Alex Iwobi, has etched his name into football history by becoming the Nigerian player with the most Premier League appearances — surpassing Shola Ameobi’s long-standing record.
The Fulham midfielder hit this remarkable milestone during Saturday’s thrilling clash against his former club, Arsenal, at Craven Cottage on October 18, where he featured for the full 90 minutes in a narrow 1-0 defeat.
Iwobi, 28, had earlier equaled Ameobi’s tally of 298 matches when Fulham faced Bournemouth earlier this month. His latest outing not only breaks the record but does so in a poetic twist — against the very team where his Premier League journey began nearly a decade ago.
He made his debut for Arsenal on October 27, 2015, against Swansea City, and has since gone on to become one of Nigeria’s most consistent exports to English football.
Trailing behind Iwobi in Nigeria’s all-time Premier League appearance chart are legends like Nwankwo Kanu (273 games), Yakubu Aiyegbeni (252), and John Obi Mikel (249) — all of whom left unforgettable marks on the league.
Iwobi’s longevity, work ethic, and evolution across clubs like Arsenal, Everton, and Fulham continue to inspire the next generation of Nigerian footballers.
