Benin Republic head coach Gernot Rohr is gearing up for what he calls a major test as his team prepares to face the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying clash.

The high-stakes match is set to take place next week at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. Rohr’s Cheetahs are riding high after a gritty 1-0 win over Rwanda, secured by a late goal from Tosin Aiyegun in Kigali.

However, the experienced German tactician admits that the challenge against Nigeria will be on a whole new level, calling it a “much tougher encounter.”

“It was a very tactical match. A difficult match with very little football. But since it was so important, you can’t come here to put on a show,” Rohr told reporters, reflecting on the Rwanda match. “We were here to get a result. Playing against Osimhen, Lookman, Simon, Iwobi. That’s another story. This result builds confidence.”
