Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has issued a public apology after facing backlash over a statement she made during a recent interview, where she claimed she introduced her 17-year-old daughter, Similoluwa, to clubbing and alcohol. In the interview, Laide had said, “In fact, I’m the first person that will bring her to a club… her very first alcoholic drink and clubbing was through me,” a remark that quickly went viral and sparked widespread criticism online.
Responding to the outrage, the actress released a video apologizing and clarifying her statement. According to Laide, it was a slip of the tongue and not an accurate reflection of what truly happened. She explained that while she did take her daughter out, she never introduced her to alcohol. “I didn’t know I said it that way until the video was sent to me,” she explained. “Such never happened. I will never introduce my daughter to alcohol.”
She added that her daughter, Similoluwa, was also upset by the misunderstanding and doesn’t appreciate being portrayed as a teenager who drinks. Laide concluded her apology by asking for forgiveness from her daughter and concerned parents who were disappointed by her words.
“I’m using this video to say sorry, Simi. Sorry to all the parents who felt I was wrong. Please forgive me for the blunder,” she said.
