The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that the average retail price of petrol across Nigeria skyrocketed by 33.02% year-on-year, hitting ₦1,024.99 per litre in July 2025, compared to the same month in 2024. However, on a monthly scale, prices dropped slightly by 1.22% from ₦1,037.66 in June 2025.
According to the NBS Petrol Price Watch, Jigawa State topped the chart with the highest average price at ₦1,107.52 per litre, closely followed by Lagos (₦1,100.29) and Sokoto (₦1,100.00). On the flip side, Zamfara (₦884.63), Yobe (₦950.60), and Kogi (₦986.67) recorded the lowest prices.
Regionally, the North West led with the highest average at ₦1,035.85, while the North East recorded the lowest at ₦1,017.65. Interestingly, market checks show that petrol prices are beginning to ease, thanks to the fall in crude oil prices. Latest data shows crude at $63.55 per barrel and Brent crude at $67.69.
Pump prices in Lagos currently range between ₦865–₦875, while Abuja records ₦890–₦910 per litre. Nigerians can only hope the downward trend continues.
